RAW Program 2011
2011 will see RAW go through a major shake up to bring you guys the most awesome program in its history! This page will keep you up to date with our speakers and the action that you can get at this year’s event so keep your eyes peeled for that goodness you know RAW can offer!
Workshops
Snake envenomations: Check out some of Australia’s most dangerous snakes whilst learning about how to treat snakebite!

Mental Health First Aid (NEW!): Are you interested in gaining skills in mental health first aid? RAW 2011 will allow you to get access to an official mental health first aid course and give you skills that may allow you to help your patients or even those you love.
Cultural Awareness: Learn from local Wiradjuri men about Indigenous culture from central-west NSW. This workshop will give you insight into Wiradjuri life prior to European settlement as well as bush tucker, bush medicine and of course learn how to throw a boomerang!

Farm tour: Tour the farm on the back of a flatbed truck! Get to see stock horses and sheep dogs in action as well as checking out a LIVE castration!
Media training (NEW!): Rural Health Workforce Australia’s Communications Manager and all round media man will be there to give you his tips on how to handle the toughest of media interviews!
Sheepwork and Shearing: Ever seen sheep dogs working in the yards? Do you know how to shear a sheep? Check it out at RAW!

Speakers:
Sam Bailey
Every once in a while, along comes a speaker who stands out from the crowd.
Sam Bailey is one of those. A farmer, pilot, husband and now best selling author, he has achieved all of those from a wheelchair….and has an incredible ability to take an audience on the journey of his life.
It’s a rollercoaster ride that promises to make people laugh, cry, appreciate what they’ve got and realise that nothing is impossible.
Sam tells his story in his own down-to-earth laconic style that captures the great Australian spirit of ‘having a go’ and he’s changing the lives of people of all ages, from all walks of life….from adults to children… read more on Sam Bailey.

Daniel Mahony
Daniel grew up in Perth, Western Australia and is currently working as a Physiotherapist in the town of Katanning located 300kms SE of Perth. The town has a population of 4,500 and services the central Great Southern Region of WA.
Daniel is a Board Member of Services for Australian Rural and Remote Allied Health (SARRAH), Western Australian representative on the Australian Physiotherapy Association National Rural Issues Committee and is a member of the Health Workforce Australia Intrim Council of Future Health Leaders.
In his spare time, Daniel is a fire fighter and Secretary of the Katanning Volunteer Fire and Rescue Brigade and relaxes in his hammock overlooking the beautiful property he now calls home… read more on Daniel Mahony.

Tom Calma
Mr Calma is an Aboriginal elder from the Kungarakan tribal group and has been involved in Indigenous affairs at all levels, from local to international. He has held a wide range of positions, most recently as the Race Discrimination Commissioner.
Mr Calma has worked long and hard with remote Indigenous communities to implement community-based and driven empowerment and participation programs. In 2003, he was the Senior Adviser to the Minister of Immigration, Multicultural and Indigenous Affairs. Since then he has been a Director of Aboriginal Hostels Ltd and a Company Director for a private tourism venture in the NT.

Friday: Welcome dinner. Get your country legs with a dinner under the stars followed by the biggest fire you’ll ever see!

Saturday: If you want an opportunity to let your hair down, then certainly the B & S ball on the Saturday of RAW will offer you more than you can handle. Check out how to party in the bush… we promise it won’t disappoint!

Sunday: Sunday will see the RAW delegates put through their paces with a NEW surprise teamwork challenge! This will be bigger and better than anything you have seen before! Follow this up with a night of RAW trivia followed by an opportunity for those party animals to continue dancing the night away!
